Accidents such as slips and falls or sports injuries could result in broken bones, weight gain, and scarring. Cosmetic surgery offers solutions to unwanted changes in your body after your accident. Here is how we provide quality cosmetic solutions to assist you on your recovery journey:

Scar Revision

Cosmetic surgery offers solutions for a variety of injuries that could have undesired effects on your body. We apply different types of sutures and incision techniques to minimize and reconstruct your scars. Scar revision is a treatment that can reduce the appearance of your scars and minimize scar discomfort.

Scarring can interfere with the function of our eyelids, which may result in dry eyes or vision loss. Our experienced doctors are available to provide you with a range of treatment options to revise both old and more recent scarring. Alternative treatments include Botox or dermal fillers to smooth a scar and reduce its appearance.

Nose Reshaping

Also known as Rhinoplasty, this procedure provides relief for breathing issues by augmenting nostril width or reshaping your nose cartilage. Accidents where the nose has been injured can cause some changes that may need to be addressed. Some symptoms of breathing issues can be whistling sounds or feeling like your nasal passages are blocked. Other symptoms include experiencing a persistent runny nose or frequent nose bleeds.

Rhinoplasties are generally an outpatient procedure, which means that you are able to go home on the same day as your surgery. We will conduct this type of procedure with either local or general anesthesia. If you undergo general anesthesia, you will need someone to drive you to your appointment and back home.

Eyelid Surgery

Facial scarring can be caused by windshield glass, impacts on a steering wheel, or airbag deployment in the event of a vehicle incident. This type of injury may limit the function of your eyelids, which could narrow your field of vision. To fix this, we recommend a Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery. We will reconstruct your eyelids by removing excess scarring or altering how any previous incisions were made.

We perform this procedure in-office with local anesthesia, which typically takes 45 minutes to a few hours to complete. Our doctors will place your incisions in inconspicuous places like the creases of your upper eyelids or below your lashes on your lower lids. This decreases the chance of noticeable scarring around your eyes.

Liposuction

A more sedentary lifestyle, such as recovering from an accident with bed rest, can cause weight gain. This is because your body and muscles are not using the same amount of energy that you once had. The body then stores this excess energy as fat, depositing it around your body for later use. Liposuction sculpts your body by removing fat deposits from undesirable areas like the midsection and upper arms.

Once these fat deposits are removed, they are permanently gone. This means that your body will not be able to store fat within those areas in the same way. If you do gain weight again after your surgery, it won’t be to the same degree as before. To perform this procedure, we will create a small incision that is as inconspicuous as possible. Then, we use a cannula, which is a small tube, to break up the fat layer and remove it with suction.

Abdominoplasty

Another treatment we offer for those who have gained weight after recovering from an accident is an abdominoplasty. This procedure helps flatten and shape the abdomen and waist by removing excess skin and fat. If you’ve experienced an injury to this area, such as road rash scarring, we will also remove the damaged tissue.

The procedure is performed with either general anesthesia or local anesthesia and a sedative. Scars for this surgery are placed low on the abdomen, stretching from hip to hip, which is similar to a cesarean section. This allows you to wear bikinis again without visible scarring.

Body Lift

If you’ve lost a lot of weight after your accident due to a long recovery time, you may notice loose skin on your arms, torso, and legs. Certain genetic conditions, like cutis laxa, can limit the elasticity of your skin, creating these loose areas after weight loss. Age may also be a factor, as we naturally lose the elasticity of our skin over time, which is one reason that we bruise more easily in our advanced years.

To care for your incisions after your procedure, we will send you home with ointments that keep your wounds healthy and prevent infections. The ointment keeps the incisions soft, which prevents scabbing, as scabs alter how our wounds heal, creating further scarring. We also recommend that patients wear compression garments after their surgery to help circulation and speed up the healing process.
