FORHEAD LIFT

(Browplasty)

A forehead lift, also known as a browplasty, can revitalize drooping or lined foreheads, helping you to look less angry, sad, or tired. Using either traditional or minimally invasive (endoscopic) methods, the muscles above the eyes are altered to smooth lines and raise the eyebrows for a more youthful appearance. The procedure is often combined with other operations such as blepharoplasty and facelifts to improve the look of the eyes and other areas of the face. At Somerset Plastic Surgery, our expert team of plastic surgeons is able to tailor your treatment to suit your specific aesthetic goals.

Reasons To Get a Browplasty

A browplasty helps rejuvenate the upper face. It helps create a more rested, youthful look. Here are a few reasons why some people pursue this procedure:

  • Reduce horizontal forehead lines and wrinkles
  • Elevate sagging eyebrows
  • Soften deep frown lines between the brows
  • Improve facial symmetry
  • Complement other plastic surgery procedures, like blepharoplasty

Along with cosmetic reasons, some individuals also get this plastic surgery for medical concerns. Sagging or low-positioned eyebrows may contribute to a feeling of heaviness or restrict vision. A forehead lift can be combined with eyelid surgery to address such issues. Each situation and treatment plan will vary, so discuss your aesthetic and functional goals with your plastic surgeon. During your consultation, your surgeon will also evaluate your general health to make sure you are an appropriate candidate for this procedure.

About the Forehead Lift Process

In a traditional forehead lift, the surgeon makes a coronal (headphone-shaped) incision behind the hairline, extending between the ears and across the top of the forehead. In a minimally invasive (endoscopic) forehead lift, the plastic surgeon makes three to five short incisions; then an endoscope, a slim instrument with a camera on the end, is placed in one incision while the surgeon works through the other incisions. After lifting and repositioning the forehead tissues, the surgeon closes any incisions to reduce visible scarring. Depending on the technique used, a plastic surgeon will use sutures or staples to hold the tissues in their new position.

Forehead and Eyebrow Lift Recovery

Recovery and aftercare following a plastic surgery forehead lift will vary depending on the individual and the technique used; it often involves a gradual healing process over the course of several days to a few weeks. Temporary swelling or bruising may occur shortly after the procedure and should subside within a few weeks. Some individuals also experience numbness or skin sensitivity, which will subside as healing progresses.

During recovery, patients are encouraged to rest. Certain activities, like strenuous movements or heavy lifting, should be avoided for a period of time before resuming normal routines. Light activities will be reintroduced first, while more demanding physical exertion may be delayed until the final stages of healing. Following proper postoperative care instructions and attending all follow-up visits will help promote a smooth recovery.

Expected Results and Longevity of Forehead Lifts

The results of a forehead lift involve repositioning the brow area and providing a smoother appearance across the upper face; the visible degree of changes will vary from person to person. Some individuals will notice they have a more refreshed appearance, while others may have a more defined difference in brow height or forehead contours. The longevity of these results will differ based on individual characteristics and how the body changes over time. Natural aging will continue after a plastic surgery procedure. Lifestyle factors like sun exposure, skincare habits, and overall health also play a role in how results are maintained. Qualities like skin elasticity and thickness also affect long-term outcomes. Because of these variables, your plastic surgeon will discuss expectations with you in detail during a consultation so that the outcome aligns with your individual goals.
